Terms

Terms of use

The plain-English version of what you can do with what we publish, and what we are and are not responsible for.

⚠️ This is a template and is not legal advice

These terms are a drafting starting point, not a reviewed contract. No solicitor has read them, no jurisdiction or legal entity is named, and some clauses below are explicitly unfinished. Get them reviewed by a qualified lawyer in the right country before this site launches.

Agreeing to these terms

By using diat.blog you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site. They apply alongside our privacy notice.

β€œDiat”, β€œwe” and β€œus” mean the publisher of this site. The legal entity, its registration details and its registered address are still to be added here; we have left them blank rather than inventing them.

Not medical advice

Everything on Diat is general information about food, nutrition and exercise. It is not medical advice, it is not a diagnosis, and it is not a treatment plan for you. Nothing here creates a clinician-patient relationship, however specific an article sounds.

Please do not use this site to replace advice from a doctor, registered dietitian or other qualified professional, and never delay seeking help because of something you read here. Talk to a professional before changing your diet, starting a supplement or altering how you exercise β€” particularly if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are under eighteen, take prescribed medication, have a diagnosed condition, or have a history of disordered eating.

If you think you are having a medical emergency, contact your local emergency services immediately.

Using our content

You are welcome to:

  • Read, print and save articles for your own personal use.
  • Link to any page here β€” no permission needed, and we would rather you linked than copied.
  • Quote a short extract in your own work, with our name and a link to the original article.

Please do not:

  • Republish whole articles, or substantial parts of them, without written permission.
  • Use our content to train a machine-learning model, or scrape the site at a volume that affects other readers.
  • Present our writing as your own, or edit it in a way that changes what it says while keeping our name on it.
  • Use anything from Diat to market a supplement or health product, or to imply we endorse one. We do not endorse products.

For syndication or any other reuse, please wait until our contact channel is available. Its status is on the contact page.

Intellectual property

The articles, illustrations, layout and code on this site are protected by copyright and belong to us or to our contributors, who license their work to us for publication. The Diat name and logo are ours.

Third-party material we quote or embed β€” study figures, photographs, typefaces β€” remains with its own owners under its own terms. If you believe something here infringes your rights, please check the contact page for our contact channel. It is being set up.

Material you send us

If you email us a pitch, a correction or a comment, you are confirming it is yours to send and does not infringe anyone else’s rights. We may quote a correction you send in a published correction note; tell us if you would rather not be named and we will leave your name out.

Commissioned work is covered by the terms agreed with the writer, not by this page. Those are set out when we commission β€” see write for us.

We link out constantly, because that is what citing sources means. Those sites are not ours: we do not control them, we are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices, and a link is not an endorsement of everything on the other end of it.

Links to studies and journals may stop working, sit behind a paywall, or point to work that has since been corrected or retracted. Tell us if you find a dead or misleading link and we will fix it.

Availability and accuracy

We work hard to get things right β€” our editorial policy sets out how β€” but we cannot promise that every article is complete, current or error-free. Nutrition science moves, and an article reflects the evidence as we read it on the date shown.

We may change, update or remove content, and the site may be unavailable at times. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access.

Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from your use of this site or from any decision you take based on what you read here, including decisions about diet, supplements, exercise or treatment. You use the information at your own risk.

Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited β€” for example for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Consumer protection law may give you rights these terms cannot remove, and those rights are unaffected.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated version. For a significant change we will flag it on the site rather than expecting you to notice.

Governing law

The law that governs these terms and the courts that would hear a dispute have not been settled, so this section is deliberately blank. Naming a jurisdiction we have not taken advice on would be worse than admitting the gap.
